I know if I buy $280 worth of ram from OCZ pc3200 plat rev 2 (I think that is the name) I can can get get memory results but to me that cost may be too steep

I am looking to purchase a A64 939 3000 or 3200...I would like to get 2500mhz and 250 fsb...is it possible??

I have kingston valurampc2700 that does 200fsb 2.7v with no issues on my IT7 Max2 rev2
My current setup:
P4 2.4B@2.9...160fsb
1gb 2 x 512 kingston valuram pc2700 at 4:5 divider..cpu:fsb 160:200
IT7 Max2 rev2
3optical drives on ide1&2
2 maxtor 160gb hdd on HPT ide 3&4

I would like to hit 2500mhz....I am willing to get a 3200 but it seems this do not o/c as well

I realize a A64 3000 will need a fsb of 280 to get to 2500 which it probable a pipe dream with my ram..this assumes I get a good chip

I am looking at MSI Neo2 platinum(wish these boards would have more ide channels)

I am not sure I want to wait for NF4 and pci-e

you can turn down the memory ratio to run the memory at a fraction of the fsb's speed. For example, if you have a FSB of 200 (standard) your ram will be running at a 1:1 ratio, so it will also be running at 200 mhz, which is pc3200 speed. If you overclock your FSB to 250, you could turn down the ratio to 5:4 so the memory would be running about 200 mhz. The athlon 64's use some weird way of calculating the memory frequency based off of the mem ratio, but i think its very close to what it would be if the frequency was calculated the normal way.
This way you could OC to a high FSB with value ram.

Is performance drop by not clocking ram 1:1 a big issue? Or am I behind in times. Im sadly, still using an AXP where I have found 1:1 to have a profound effect.

not setting the mem to 1:1 makes next to no difference on the Athlon64's unlike the Athlonxp's

Yes. I am running PC2100 on a vnf3-250 at 2200 mhz from 2000 stock !!!! (just built it for a friend)

yup. cheep ram is fine, expensive ram is slightly better, but not really worth the money unless you want a super high end rig.
