HELP! I accidentally ingested acetone

Acetone aka nail polish remover. It was on my hands cuz I was cleaning a heatsink and I cut myself and I sucked on my finger and tasted acetone.

well good for you. don't drink the rest of the bottle. You will be fine.

You had traces on your finger and licked it off? Do you know how fast that stuff evaporates? There's no way you licked any significant amount off your fingers....you probably inhaled more of it just being aroudn the fumes for a few mintues!

Your gonna die. Wether it's now or 100 years from now, I don't know.
Until then, call the poison control center. 😛

Well, while I am here fearing for my life, does anyone know of a good way to get thermal gunk off a heatsink with safety (of my fingers) and without scraping the bottom of the heatsink a lot?

I have already asked in the CPU forum.

Acetone. 😀

May I please have your computer and all your peripherals and software? You won't be needing it next week. 😉 Whoever said the thing about the fumes being worse was correct. You have nothing to worry about. You do have a will, though, right?

Goo Gone works extremely well, but some say it leaves a layer of oil on the HS.

So I use Goo Gone, then soap & water. Rinse it good, dry it with a hair dryer, & you're good to go.

Viper GTS <-- Has washed lots of CPUs too. None dead yet. 🙂

Thanks Viper, but Arctic Silver specifically said do not use Goo Gone. As it is oil based. But you may use Goof Off which is xylene (spelling) based.

But maybe I will use goo gone then use soap and water. Bar soap or liquid?😛

Hehe, I washed a 600 Duron in soap and water as an experement just to see if it would do anything. It worked before and after, and still overclocked to 800. I gave it to a guy in DC for his system, and is still running strong 😀

I used a razor blade and acetone to get the residual off of it but in the process I scraped the hell out of it. I got one more to go as I am building a dual cpu system and I would rather not scrape the next one as much.

But maybe I shouldnt worry too much about scratches cuz the Arctic Silver will fill it in (right?).

Goof off will serously screw with your head if you use it for any length of time. You may as well eat a permant marker 😀

I use goof off to take off the price stickers where I work. I find all the spots where the beam was toughed up with paint, because if it was not the factory baked on finish, the paint comes right off 😀

Just get a piece of glass and some 400+ grit sandpaper ( prefferably wet, the black stuff ). Then tape the sandpaper to the glass, and rub put any marks. That is what I do. Takes 5 minutes, and is well worth it.

So is that to get rid of the thermal gunk or to smooth the scrapes?
