I have the system described in my sig and yesterday, i took apart my computer to pu some thermal grease on my chipset and when i put it back together, HW doctor wouldn't read temps of my cpu or the system temp anymore. I was very careful in everything i did and the motherboard still reads temps in my bios, but the software wont work anymore. I have tried reinstalling hardware doctor and everything. Any other programs out that i can use to read my temps, or any suggestions on how i screwed this up and how i can fix it?

Sure you dont have an option in the bios to let you view temps in windows? I have a HW monitor thing on mine i can turn on and off. Mabey that is the problem?

now i believe it is either my cpu or my slotket and i am so hoping for it to be my slotket. I put my "old" p3 550 in my computer and the temps read fine, which can only mean that i have a broken slotket or a messed up thermal diode in my cpu. But this is quite weird since i can read temps inside my bios.

Was there a thermal probe somewhere that you disconnected? Check all you connections, especially your fan connection....and refer with your mobo manual as some 4-pin connections are sensitive to which fans go where, namely cpu fans, etc.

no help? sorry...:(

nope, no thermal probe i disconnected for my cpu. Although i did connect a thermal probe this morning and used it and that was when i noticed the cpu problem. I took out the probe and it didn't change anything. But, i haven't checked my cpu temp lately so i never noticed when the problem started. I also just recently went on a hunt for some extra hard drive space and ravaged my files. I migh thave deleted something important but that should have been fixed in re-install. Maybe i should just stick my thermal probe on my cpu and shut up, but then that leaves for bad cooling on the spot where the probe goes.

i guess i have to be kind of happy that my cpu temp sensor ability is broken for now because i think it was giving me wrong temps. With a 38 cfm delta fan i had temps of 38-39 and with this old piece of junk fan, i got around 41 degrees which is very interesting.
