Help! HP LJ5MP not picking up paper

Folks,

Here's my scenario and a painful one it is. I have a LaserJet 5MP that I just changed the toner in (a month or so). It printed a decent amount of paper using the new toner just fine. Now, however, the printer just doesnt pick up paper any more. I load up a variety of different types of paper (including HP general purpose stock, just in case) and it makes all the right noises but is unable to pick up any paper from the tray. When the error light goes on, I take out the paper tray and find the top-most page stuck right in the beginning of the paper intake area. I extract the paper from this area and put the tray back in (minus the jammed paper) and the same thing happens again. Repeat until frustrated.

Any hints?

Thanks

Paper has a curl built into it due to it being manufactured/stored on a large roll before it is cut to size and the curl will be worse with paper nearer to the center of the roll. Most reams of paper will have an arrow printed on the end denoting the way it came off the roll. Try taking all the paper out of the tray and putting it back in with what was the topside to the bottom. Some printers are peculiar about this. HTH...................

Guys,

Thanks a whole lot, specially KouklatheCat. That URL is awesome! Apparently I'd forgotten to subscribe to this thread so I didn't realize the prompt responses I'd gotten. I eventually went out and bought a printer that does duplex and is 19ppm. I'm happy with it but the old printer is definitely worth fixing. Also, this bump can bring this site to the attention of others who might be looking for an answer.

Thank you. I am, yet again, a believer in the technical prowess of the AT forums 🙂

javeed,

Your'e very welcome. Someone pointed me to that site to fix my LJ2100. I was able to narrow the problem down, now if I could just afford the part.
