[Help]: How to tell the problem between CPU and mobo?

I got a P4 1.9 and one Aopen AX4B (845 DDR) from a friend.
The setup is pretty simple, PS + mobo + CPU + one 256MB DDR memory, no floppy or hard drives.

When I powered it on, it looked like the mobo and CPU both worked. There was no "beep"s or any other warning signals.
However, there was no signal sent to my monitor either.

Is there any way I can isolate the problems to see where I receive the problems from? I don't have any other P4 CPU. I don't have any other P4 mobo either.

Thanks,

chichi

I have tried both ATI 8500DV and GeForce 2 SDR 256.
The PS is a brand new Antec 350W.

No. No signals sent to my monitor. I couldn't see anything there.

Thanks

You probably already done these, but.... monitor known to be good? How is monitor powered, into outlet or into pwr supply of case? Plug it into its own outlet if it isnt. Try a different cable between vid card and monitor.

If you have or can get a PCI video card, try it, if at first it doesnt work, try different PCI slot. If it then works the AGP slot on mobo is probably screwed or worse mobo problem. hth

does it POST? does it shut down or stay on indefinetely just no video output? if both are yes than i think you can canclel out the cpu being messed up.

The monitor is powered into outlet. It is used for my current PIII-750 without a problem. Also, I tried another vid cable and a PCI vid card. They couldn't help. :(

It just stays on indefinetely without any video output. Do you mean that is a dead CPU?

Thanks,

if it gives you a POST and continues on running then id assume the cpu is fine, in my experience when the cpu is fried it shuts down after a while. look at it, check for burn marks. also, are you sure the memory is ok? i havent had a memory problem yet so i dont know, is one able to access the bios when the ram is bad?

I have two memory sticks made by Crucial. Both of them are brand new. Neither of them can work with that setup.

BTW, what do you mean about POST? All I can see if that the led on the motherboard was on, the fans were all working fine, but my monitor showed me it didn't receive any signal from the video card. :(

POST, Power On Self Test, in the first seconds of being on the computer checks itself and if everything is ok it gives you that familiar BEEP.

Oh. I see. Thank you.

I cannot hear any "beep" so that I guess it didn't do POST.
