Help i bought these 3 computer components and i want to overclock the memory and processor and get the right divider setting my goal is to get this computer at 2.4 ghz minimum i increased the fsb to 240 and it locks up in doom 3 but runs great in farcry i have read the OC forums guide and i found where to set the memory timing but i dont know what to set it at i have never OC a athlon before right now my fsb is set at 220 and all my other settings are at auto including the memory also what voltage should i run my cpu and memory at? when i ran 3dmark 03 my friends OC 2.8 to 3.0 non hyperthreading intel with 533 bus scored better than my athlon cpu granted he did have 1 gig of memory to my 512 and i have faster memory

here is my setup

processor http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=19-103-486&depa=1
motherboard http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=13-136-147&depa=1
memory http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=20-145-416&depa=1

my video card is a 6800 OC made by bfg
antec sonata quiet case with 380 watt PS

Does it load at stock speeds? First you need to optimize your bios settings and make sure you lock your AGP/PCI to 66/33.

ok i have my agp at 66 i dont know about the pci though and how can i tell if it is locked i have heard that changing the agp to 67 will lock it is that correct? when i have all the settings to auto and that FSB set to 240 which is 2.4 ghz the computer runs stable but it will not run doom smooth at all it closes the game down so when i scale the FSB to 220 it will run doom ok

You need to check your machine for stability as you slowly raise up the FSB. I would recommend going 5 Mhz at a time. There should be a setting in your BIOS to set your AGP/PCI to 66/33. For starters set your VCore to 1.5 (default), your memory at least to 2.7VDimm, and your VAGP to 1.5V. Also set you memory to 400Mhz. I would recommend for now to loosen your memory's timing to 3-4-4-8. As you slowly raise up your FSB test for stability with pregrams like Sandra or Memtest. As you get instability you may need to increase the vcore and/or VDimm, and be careful of your CPU Temps.

funny huh? the thing is i can run doom and farcry at higher settings than he can so i really dont care one thing was his vid card was overclocked and mine wasn't and i haven't tweaked my system yet either he has his running on the bring of cooking his processor and memory so when all is said and done i hope mine will score higher my score was 300 points lower than his

Yo, Socket

I haven't worked with AMD processors, nor with DFI mobo's. But basically, what one of the other posters said on this thread is correct. There will be limitations on what the motherboard and the memory can handle. You need to proceed cautiously, patiently, in increments. Personally, I would start with stock, SPD latency settings for the Corsairs.

Especially, I am familiar with the Corsair modules. They have very good stock latency settings in SPD, and in fact, are reliable at lower settings. Not sure about the XMS series, but some of the paired memory kits from Corsair with rated spec of DDR400 / PC3200 can be set to latencies of 2, 3, 3, 6 -- and they run per-fect-lee.

However, If you want to push the FSB even to 220, you are running these memory modules beyond their specified speed. Perhaps I should look at these posts more carefully, but offhand I think you would be luckier with DDR500's, DDR533's or even DDR433's.

And -- say -- AristoV300 -- gotta ask YOU a question.

How is that PC Power & Cooling Turbo Cool 510 Dee- LUXX???

Does the exhaust from its fan feel like room temperature? Is it really as efficient as they say?

I have lusted for one of those PSU's for more than a year, but can't bring myself to forfeit the $200-plus clams for it when I have an ALLIED AL B500E 500W that seems to have rock-steady rails and some "decent" features. It seems pretty efficient, too. Never even feels warm.

I am very pleased with the PSU. The exhaust fan works fine enough, I wouldn't say the air that comes out is room temp though. With my prescott and other periphials my 12v was sagging before. Now no matter how much load I put on it the rails never move. Yeah it was costly, but from experience if you get a good PSU it really helps my overclocking and overall performance.

My 12V rail seems to be low but just within the 2% tolerance. I've got two 92mm fans, three 120's and an 80mm Zalman OP-1 VGA cooler running off it. By comparison, I have another machine -- a p4 533 3.06 -- running off a ThermalTake PurePower 80, and the 12 volt rail always -- always stays about 0.01 above 12V.

I'm pushing a lot of air through this tower case -- not the PurePower rig-- so the air coming out the ALLIED PSU feels cold. With the fans tuned down, it's still barely noticeable in terms of exhaust vs room temp.

I oughtta save my pennies and get one of those bad-boy Turbo Cool's.

well i thought that with a divider i could lock the memory to the speeds that it was supposed to run right now i am running my memory i believe at the timings that it the manufacture has said that it will run
