I got a ATI Radeon 32MB DDR AGP vedio card from newegg.com, OEM, and try to make it work.
When install it to the catch, and lots of weird things happen. PC gets really slow. I barelly got the driver installed.
Now I can not make it work for me beacause I can't disable the integraded Nvida TNT card. Why? Because now every time I turn the machine on, after it gets into win98SE, it will crash there. Everything runs so slow that I can't operate anything but shut it down. Any idea? Thanks a lot!!!!

I had similar problems with my radeon. I found out it was because of my via chipset. You should use the via gart drivers and not the ati ones. If you have a via chipset install the via 4 in 1 drivers after unstalling the ati gart drivers might help to fix your problem.

The ATI Radeon has a real picky install...many have had problems...

I would try to do a fresh install of windows and everything...if you can...

Problem is reminence of old cards in registry can play havack as well...

I have a T-bird 750 amd w/ via chipset

this was my order of install:
when win98 detects vga card leave it as windows found it for the time being...do not install radeon drivers

1)install via 4 in 1 drivers or just agp drivers (reboot)
2)install direct x 8.0 (reboot)
3)go to device manager...click on vga device...update drivers...place in disk or browse to directory where drivers are...
**New drivers at www.rage3d.com go get them** (do not reboot)
4) go to start - run - msconfig - startup, and uncheck atigart and atipolab files (reboot)

PM me if you have other questions or need to know how to hack the registry...this applies only if you got the 80 doolar card which is the LE version with Hyper Z disabled.

Well, I figured out that you are using AMD PC but mine is HP Intel, so the method you suggestion may not apply to my computer. Is there any one who know the HP Pavilion stuff?

Since you have integrated video have you tried removing the radeon and using the exsisting video to remove the drivers? Before you install the radeon drivers you are supposed to remove pre-exsisting drivers and take the display to standard pci adapter.

Jimbon, other than the 4 in 1 via driver install everything should be the same....

What kind of agp settings have you set in the bios....Have you enabled 4x agp? Does your board do that? Have you enabled agp read and write? What is your aperture size set to? You can set this to half of your system ram (ie 128mb set to 64)...

If you can get the card set to standard vga...then disable onboard video in bios then go from there with the list I have given....

The radeon is still picky in either intel or amd...The only reason I suggest a clean reformat and install is the residual display drivers of the tnt in the registry and other areas....

Thanks Duvie for the suggestion.
My system is HP pavailion PIII 500 so it should not be a problem with VIA 4in1 driver. I can not find a switch to turn off the on-board TNT video chip. Also, I guess the mainboard is pretty old and it does not have settings for AGP (4x speed or read/write stuff). The only available setting is primary video card (I could select from PCI and AGP, I select AGP in this case of course).

I wonder if the problem is caused by IRQ confict, since both video adapter might be working at the same time, I tried to reserve some of the IRQ but can not work.

This computer can have a via chipset! The new pavilion series has! at least a 800 mhz p3... So the 4 in 1 drivers are needed, and it does not install if you don't have a via chipset..

what is the model number of the pavilion?

Jimbon, Is this a jumperless board? You may have to change the jumper on the mobo...consult your mobo manual for possible location.

I think the conflict is happening with the video onboard...

Hi, I checked my computer, it's HP Pavillion 8566C, desk top, I can't find anything to do with the motherboard in the HP website, so is there any suggestions?

Call those bastards@ HP...I am sure the key to this conflict is the need to disable that onboard video. It has to either have jumpers on the board or some menu in the bios...

It may be hidden under onboard settings or something like that submenu...That is the way they hide all the onboard stuff such as serial ports, parallel ports, and onboard sound and game controller on my board...It is also the place where I can specify irqs or have bios do it.

I am having the exact same problems. The biggest problem is you (and I) have an off-breed motherboard called the P2B-VT 1.06 if you can find anybody who has heard of this pig let me know cause my Radeon 32MB DDR won't load either and I have the same onboard as you only diff is i have the 8575C which is a 550.

My brother has an HP 8500 series, PIII 550 with 8mb integrated TNT video. I put in a Hercules GeForce2 MX and it disabled the video automatically (I don't remember having to go into the BIOS at all). So it should have turned the TNT off.

I think only HP Pavilion 44xx/64xx series - onboard VGA controller must be disabled when installing an AGP graphics adapter, 8500 series won't need. The evidence is when I install the ATI vedio card driver along with the DVD player, my original DVD player was deleted.

But, the on-board TNT card havn't been disabled, because I am still using it since the Radeon card screw me up.
