Help!!! How do i remove this Heatsink??

I have a Visiontek Xtasy GeForce 4 ti 4200 128mb... recently the stock fan crapped on me so i ordered the thermaltake copper gpu cooler w/ ramsinks... only thing is, theres this metal piece that was underneath the fan on my video card GPU. I believe it acted as some sort of heatsink, and is attached using some sort of adhesive but i dont want to just go ripping it off (dont wanna tear up my card :-/). Also maybe the piece just stays there, but i doubt it. below are some images, hope someone can help me out so i can get my new fan on!!! thanks in advance...

Your options are probably chemical attack or brute force. I haven't tried either method, but one thing I see people recommend is to get the card/heatsink rather cold, maybe put it in the freezer for a couple minutes, and then break the bond between the heatsink and the GPU. If it were me, I'd get out some fairly big arc-joint pliers and grab the heatsink with that and twist sharply, but I've also heard of using a blunt kitchen knife to pop the heatsink off.

and ur sure there arent any pshpins? it basically has to as most makers wouldnt put a hsf combo on there without them cuz it is there liability if it falls.

Look on the back and there should be some sort of white pims there pinch them in and push them through.

If that doesnt work i would use other ideas

and i posted a pic back at Hocp so look at that for locations of push pins
 
Ahhh finally, got it after about 15 min in the freezer and careful use of an old soda bottle opener i am using my new thermaltake fan... thanks for all the help guys
 
I am using the same video card as you. I didn't know that plate was in between the GPU and the Blorb... But now that I know I can pop it off safely I might want to upgrade my cooler to a nice crystal orb or the copper GF4 cooler.

I'm glad I saw this thread. 🙂
