Are you 'good' at soldering? That's a capacitor. I'd think you will have to wick out the solder from the pcb and then insert a new one. Or skillfully heat up the area and insert the new capacitor. Online or possibly a radio shack for a compatible capacitor.

Yes, it's a capacitor. You can order them online very cheap, or even could find one at Radio Shack or other electronics stores.

It will have some numbers on it, so you know exactly which replacement to get.

Yes, they are easy to solder in. You'll probably just need to re-heat the old solder and open up the original holes, then stick the new capacitor's legs into the holes and solder them in place. If you want to be fancy, you can remove the old solder and add new solder.

do they have to be aluminum ones like what you linked or can they be any type of resistor just with the correct volts and such.

If it's the same rating (16V 100uF), then you should be able to drop it in without an issue. The only thing I would say to note is the polarity.

The rating will be stated on the cap. For polarity, look at a picture of the PCB with the cap still on, note which pin is marked as the ground pin. Then, find the ground pin on your replacement cap, and make sure it's oriented correctly.

Actually, depending on how the cap was snapped off, it's possible you could just resolder the cap back on, if there is enough leg length to hold the cap into the solder (it won't be able to go through the via).

That is negative. You have to figure out which pin was negative (if one of the via connects to ground, you can find out easily with a multimeter).

is not the internet a great thing! I have repaired hundreds of different things with info from the net.

+1

Nice that so many people are willing to share their knowledge with others. The internet really is a powerful tool for fixing a lot of stuff.

Especially Youtube videos for working on things like your car. Yes, it is awesome!

I've been blown away at that. A friend (a mom,if it matters) changed her son's Acura V6 alternator with step by step instructions youtube video. I grew up doing mechanics with Chilton's repair books, often times using complete general information for another type vehicle. LOL
I used to keep them tattered and torn and dirty. Now it's just a google away.

I had a 77 dodge aspen . i had the Chilton manual I had an Aspen repair manual.it had a slant six engine. 440,000 miles on it before I sold it to a junk yard. It still ran even passed emissions! Just got tired of fixing it!
