Help help help! thunderbird portable....

I just setup thunderbird portable (Windows) on a USB stick that was working just fine yesturday, I ejected the stick and took to work and attempted to plugin at work and check email (worked fine) came back home and plugged stick in on machine and windows 7 asks if I wanted to make thunderbird the default mail client, to which I said okay but now when it loads it does not load my default profile that I had previously configured, it wants to make a whole new profile and everything....

Anyone know how I can adjust this to always load my default profile? reloading doesn't work it seems to always think its a fresh new install and has forgotten my profile yet my files still exist..

Well I don't know why it happened but I restored a backup I had and copied the files over again, so I am up and running. If anyone knows why this happened or how I can avoid it in the future please let me know, I have already disabled T-bird portable ability to check if its default mail client (just in case that had something to do with it...)
