twice the system has apontaniously rebooted whikle in windows, and then failed completely to reboot. When it first happened, we thoguth the drive had failed and used a different drive and reinstalled. Then it happened again to the new drive. It would thus appearto be a hardware problem,. Anyone got any ideas? Could this be a BIOS virus or something of the like? where could i find a program to detect such a virus without having to go into windows? Internal components overheating? The system has been perfectly fine for about 10 months. This issue needs to be resolved ASAP!

I had a similar problem with my home built rig, and after four posts here and many hours later, it turned out there was a loose wire(s) in my system that would cause random reboots and shutdowns. After I replaced the power supply, all went well again, same equipment, same installtion of win2k... two weeks and counting...

With Win2k, you have "Event" logs. Check them for errors and see if any correspond to the times it rebooted.
Start Button/Programs/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer

OR

Start/Run/eventvwr.msc

wow, never knew that one... at least something was learned! Thanks! And btw, its under control panels...

I have a W2K machine that does the same thing. I have not checked the Event Viewer yet, but there are settings for the machine to reboot after memory dump.
