Help! Hard drive scores are low

this is way too much Random Access time. How do i correct?

WD Raptor 36gb
NTFS
WIndows 2k SP4
2500 barton
a7n8x deluxe
1gb corsair xms pc3200

Remember that Access Time isn't the same as Seek Time. Seek is getting the heads over the right track. Access is getting the heads over the right track and waiting for the platter to come around.

No. My Raptor scored around 8 and my 7200 ATA100 WD scored 14.5 .

From what I've seen, 8-9ms is about right for search speed on a WD 36 gig raptor. The 74gig has a 7ms.

You got the same results as StorageReview.com did in their review, so I would say you are on target. Hard drive manufacturers list the seek time, and like mechBgon said, the seek time is lower than the access time which you are measuring (in this case by about 3 ms.)
