Help!! Hard drive question

Suppose I install a new 30 GB HDD as secondary HDD on my Desktop, but latest bios supports say 8GB. So I used 8 GB and filled that space by data. Now, If I install a ATA Controller card and connect that hard drive to New controller, Do I need to format my hard drive to get full 30 GB? My Concern is Whether I will loose existing data after getting 30 GB Hard drive space. Thanks.
 
Realy shouldnt be here but I think it you will just need to add an extra partion for the rest of teh space so you wont loose any of it
