Okay, this is my first rig that I have built and I keep getting this error with my computer. Missing NLTDR Ctrl Alt Del to restart.

I know that it is a missing a file and the file is associated with Winxp. I formated this drive on this new via winxp cd And now it pops up with this error I have read up EXTENSIVELY on almost every possible solution to this problem. But for some reason when I try to put in my Winxp Pro cd, it won't read it before the NLTDR message. I have CD rom set to boot first in the bios.

My system specs are

Athlon 64 3400+
MSI K8N Neo Platinum
SeaGate Barracuda ATA II Hard Drive
Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro
Sound Blaster Augidy LS

I am totally and utterly lost on this and would REALLY REALLY appreciate help on this. If I can't get this worked out, I will break down and buy a WD raptor or something to replace it.

man...i wish i could help you...i actually had this problem like 2 years ago...i even have the reciept from when i got it fixed, but it doesn't tell me how they did it...
something in my memory makes me think it had to do with a cord or something being loose or bad...

Have you switched the IDE channels (the hard drive to IDE 2 and your CD-Rom to IDE 1 or vice versa)?

Have you checked MSI's website for a BIOS update?

Are your jumper settings on the hard drive and cd drive right (slave, master, or cable select)?

Is their another system you can try the hard drive in? It seems that their have been a lot of MSI K8N problems around here lately. It could be the motherboard as well.

I built a coworkers PC and he bought a MSI 865PE Neo board, and the IDE connectors went out and were pretty flaky from the start.
