HELP -- hard-drive "DISAPPEARS" occasionally

occasionally the system hangs and i get a blue screen telling me that my drive cannot be written to. when i try to restart the computer sometimes the drive is detected and sometimes it is not. but even when it is, it occasionally disappears in windows. does anyone know what's going on? specs:

chenbro genie junior
enermax 550w
epox 8k7a w/ 0711 bios
1.0ghz athlon mp @ 1.44ghz
crucial pc2100
ibm 30gb w/ ultimate hd cooler
dvd-rom
cd-rw
floppy

yeah, it's the same drive that windows is on. good thing i still have warranty on it. :)

Backup first, you push a drive like the with extensive testing it may stay dead

you might not find any problem, the power plug to the circuit board may be loose.. i have several quantum with the same problem, not detected or if u touch the power plug when the PC is on, it loses power and restarts and get that stoopid error... Also happens on boot up so sometimes I just make sure the plug is tight or jiggle it around... or it might be something else... but RMA it anyway..
