Help had 2160 at 3.2ghz now only hits 2.8ghz

Hello all,

Question: As the title says I was running my E2160 at 3.2Ghz with the following setup

LIAN LI PC-7B plus II Black Aluminum ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
4 x 120mm fans
Abit IP35-E
E2160
Crucial Ballistix 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)x3
Enhance P80 500W power supply
Thermalright Ultra120
Soundblaster extreme music x-fi
Samsung spinpoint sata 500gig

I got a great deal on an antec900 and went with some gskill 2gig per stick memory
as eventually I wasn tto go 8gigs for my video work.

Now the best I can achieve is 2.8 ghz when I try to go higher it defaults to OEM speed? Through the bios reports it is oc'ed the the wanted value.
All things are the same as above except the case and memory. Thoughts anyone? I'm wondering if etiehr the motherboard or power supply could be suspect also I'm running the latest bios V14

Any help insight would be much appreciated.

Another weird thing I just noticed cpuz is bouncing between my over clock value and a lower clocked value? What does that mean?

Ok never mind I guess speed step is enabled when I launch something it jumps to 3ghz. It is now stable at 3ghz I'm going to start stability test and see if it holds

The problem should be EIST/C1E only if the OP is running a FSB of 465. So, OP, where you running at 465?

7x 465 3255 < OC
6x 465 2790 < EIST

You second post does seem to indicate EIST is on but I'm too confused to say that's what it is. When you say "defaults to OEM speed" do you mean you motherboard reboots to POST and starts you PC at stock speeds (FSB200)? If that's the case, I'd guess it's probably EIST/C1E causing instability or your new memory is messed up.

Does it seem EIST is coming up a lot more often now that we have the Speed Step sticky or is it just me?

I'd have to agree with you there but the E2160 has a multiplier of 9x, so it'd be 333x9 (3.0GHz) to 333x6 (2.0GHz).

Hey guys sorry for the confusion well I mem tested my new memory and it passes. So the issue is not there. I had thought I disabled the EIST but I guess I didn't. That is why cpuz is bouncing around at idle it is running at 2.2ghz but when I launch something it jumps to 3ghz I'm going to leave it as it has proven stable so far I tried running the gskill at CAS 4 my pc dosen't like it oh well. I'd have to agree with you there but the E2160 has a multiplier of 9x, so it'd be 333x9 (3.0GHz) to 333x6 (2.0GHz).

Multipliers can be decreased, I'm not sure if the IP35-E supports downclocking but it's possible. Just to make sure I wasn't lying/full of shit I checked on my system, by the way. Currently running 8x 300 on my E2160/DS3L.

And Sponge, it might be voltages.

Hey RTS yeah I tried upping the voltage on these sticks to like 2.1V and still no dice I read somewhere these 2gig sticks have a harder time doign this than the 1 gig
