Help getting RAID stuff off a hard drive.

Ill be brief,

I have an Abit BX-133 RAID motherboard and also have two IBM 30 Gig hard drives that were setup on this RAID (stripe 0). Well, I decided to sell the motherboard and just keep the two hard drives and put them on my old motherboard (an Abit BH6). Stupid me, when I took the hard drives off the old motherboard, I forgot to delete the RAID on the drives.

So now, when I go and try to FDISK the drives (actually, only one of the drives is giving me a problem here) it is all messed up and won't FDISK and FORMAT like it would normally. When I get inside Windows 2000, it says it's a 65 gig hard drive (just one of the 30 gig drives) and its just all messed up.

How can I get the RAID stuff off of that one hard drive and get it all nice and clean and formatted without having to rehook up the BX-133 motherboard and go into the RAID software and delete it? Surely there is another simpler way (?).

HELP!!

Please. ;-)

Did you try the IBM format utility?

Also try fdisk /mbr on the drive thats giving you fits and then run fdisk to delete/re-do the partition.

would reccomend HD vendor's WRITE zero's to drive util, usually part of HD diags. Do to both HD's, should be workable again no matter what was on them. Viruses included

I think you should consider reconnecting the drives and deleting the array. This method is the least likely to cause you further problems. If you used the ZAP utility, please post your results. Good luck.

Any low-level format program will do the job, if you cannot get hold of one, contact me by this thread and i'll get you one...

Yes, I tried it. It actually didn't even do anything (that I could tell) and certainly didn't fix my prob. This sucks!

I can't remember quite how I sorted it. I know I used a combination of ZAP, WIPE, fdisk, fdisk /mbr, & finally format. I also tried the IBM Disc doctor software or whatever it's called but I don;t think this did anything. D/l it and see though.

Something worked! Try and find a low-level format tool though I couldn't locate an IBM specific one.

Chad, reconnect the drives to the BX-133 mobo, go into the raid software and delete the array. You've known from day 1 that this is the recommended method and your first post implies that this is an option. Or have you already gotten rid of the BX-133? If so, good luck. Perhaps IBM offers software that can restore your drives.
