HELP: Gameport Problems

I have an AOpen AW744-L and am trying to hookup a microsoft sidewinder gamepad to it but windows does not detect it in the Gaming Options Control Applet. I have disabled the onboard sound and the onboard game port. I have also installed the gameport driver that comes along with the AW744-L drivers. Any suggestions?
 
Hmmm this is a tuff one.... gameports can be so finicky.........

I guess I would try and reinstall the the sound drivers. If that does not work, boot into safe mode and delete everything under sound..... then reboot and see if it detects it and finds the correct drivers. Then try it... HArd to say on this one.. gameports can be such a #$%^&

Also see if you can download the newest drivers from MS site on that controller........ maybe they have a bug fix...
