Help finding scanner for B&W documents

I'm looking for a flatbed scanner (USB) that is very crisp at scanning forms/applications. The forms will contain mostly text of various size, and some line art (boxes, bars, etc.). Color depth is not important since the forms I'll be scanning are in grayscale or straight B/W.

I would like to stay under $150. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
 
ahh I don't notice a lot of scanner threads around here, so I say check out Cnet's reviews. I hear that HP and Umax are good, I just use a generic one I got for $10 after rebate and it works great.
 
Epson and Canon make good scanners too. I would probably go towards the Epson now cause of the good reviews that they have been getting.
 
Great thanks. I checked out Cnet and pcMag's website - good reference. The Epson's and Canon's do appear to be good canidates.
 
Just wondering if you every bought the scanner. I too am looking for good document scanner at a reasonable price and I need to get one fairly soon...like now.

I had a HP5 SCSI scanner and this scanner has been a nightmare trying to get it to work in WinXP. XP recognizes it but it causes all kind of problems. If I remove the scanner everything is fine, I put it back on I get wierd error messages.
 
No, not yet. There seems to be quite a bit of choice in the sub $150 which is good. After reading several reviews, I think I'll end up picking an Epson or Canon. Scanners have come a long way with an increase inttrest in digital photography, so if it has good color scan stats, B&W scan should be faster and sharp.

You should be in luck finding a new scanner since it will moe than likely be fully tested and compatible with Windows XP.
