Help finding AC adaptor

I need to find an AC adaptor for an LCD monitor. The one I have is bad. The label on the bad one says that the DC output is 12.0v and 3.3a Max (40w max)

I've found lots of 12.0v adaptors but none of them have amps listed, just mA. What's mA??

Any help?

mA = milliamps

You need an adapter rated to output/handle 40w @ 12V, i.e. 3.3 amps. You need to find one that is a bit higher rated. I'm guessing your local rat shack may have it. If not, call the manu.

When in doubt, use the old power eq. : P = I * V

I doubt that someplace like Radio Shack has anything with that high of a rating. A lot of small, portable TVs that run on 12vdc only pull 1A (even with a CRT). Using one of a lesser current rating is a potential fire hazard, as it may severely overheat. Just as a guess, I'd say that the monitor has built-in speakers to require that much power. I would agree that the manufacturer is the best place to try, but I would also guess that one with such high power requirements would cost $40-50us.
