I want to get my dad a cell phone for Christmas. His old phone is starting to die and is in need of a new one. The problem is his carrier was bought out by att&t. His contract is up by does not want to give up his previous plan. He is grandfathered in at his old rate of 40 something a month for unlimited minutes.

He does not need anything with a lot of features. He does not text or do email. He just wants blue tooth, stable and tough if possible. He works doing fuel oil delivery and can be a little rough on a phone. I was looking and can't find a simple phone with blue tooth that is rock solid stable and att&t compatible.

I am looking for recommendations please.

Your dad sounds like a good candidate for a pay as you go phone.

Purchase a "Go Phone" and pop his SIM card in it, and he's golden, inexpensive phone, no new contract...

You can grab one at most major retailers (no one has a good candidate on sale at the moment that I noticed) on ATT's website, I believe the Nokia 6085 would meet his needs for around $50. http://www.wireless.att.com/ce...nes/prepaid-phones.jsp

I was thinking that but figured those phones would not be unlocked. If they are unlocked that sounds like the way to go. Thanks for the help.

I am assuming since his cell carrier was bought by ATT that ATT phones would work, the pay as you go phones work perfectly on the same carrier, but they are carrier locked.

You can likely find a 6085 Go Phone for the same price at a retailer.
