Help, fan plug, VGA Silencer & Radeon 9800pro 256meg version

Greetings, I need help since it seems I've hit a problem installing the VGA Silencer from Artic Cooling.

I was told this worked with 9800 pro's, so I bought a 9800 pro 256 meg version and a VGA Silencer.
For the silencer, it uses a plug that has two holes for taking power off the radeon.
The radeon in the silencer's documentation has a two prong power plug receiver right next to the VGA output.

My problem is that on the 256meg version, the prong is 3 prongs. It is also not located next to the vga output, but on the edge of the board on the opposite side. I found this quite unusual.

Not to mention problemic.

Plz let me know if you've hit this problem, or what should I do in this case?

I've heard the VGA Silencer does not work with the 256MB version of the 9800 pro. You might as well return it. Sorry 🙁

Sneaky is incorrect. It's the 9800 XT that doesn't work with this card.

I had this same issue with my 9800 pro 128 MB. Just look at the old 3 prong plug colors, and match those colors to the two colors on the two prong plug. Basically you have to plug the two-prong plug into one side of the 3-prong outlet. Alternately, you can plug in the 3-prong plug, and cut the wires and splice them. Either way works, just make sure you match the colors up right. (If yours is like mine, there is simply no yellow wire on the 2-prong, so just match up ground and power and you're set).

Actually Sneaky is correct, or at least partially.

There are two versions of the 9800 Pro, and the one with three wires on the fan is essentially a 9800XT...R360 thermal diode, etc...

This version makes the fan not a direct fit, however if you can get the red and black plugged into the same place as the red and black of the original fan, the VGA Silencer WILL work. You can either splice the old connector on (leaving the third wire hanging) or you may be able to get the pins out of both connectors and put the VGA silencer female pins into the connector from teh original HSF.

3 wire fan = not direct plug compatible with VGA silencer.

The VGA Silencer does work with a 9800xt. The only issue is with the plug. If you look at at where the black and red wires went with the OEM fan, all you have to do is match up the red and black and presto! Everything works. The Hi/lo fan speed switch and the temp sensor too. I gotto go, but if you have any questions, I'll check this thread out later.
Good luck!

Edit: here's the linky so you can see mine. I sold it earlier this month
