 ecs-k7s5a...enlight340w/ps.. amd 1600xp.. 2 sticks crucial 128mb ddr unbufferred ram.. using pal8045 and fan..temps in bios reading 41c.. using diamond stealth3-s540 pci video card (it was free) and the onboard sound and nic.. Is there anyway to tell if my ram is working correctly?? it says 256mb wherever I look (performance..in my comp properties) bios boots and see's my xp 1600 @ 1400mhz.. was just thinkin it could be cause the rams not set up right.. bios sttings are... normal/ sdp??/6t/4t.. does that seem right?? Tried ultra/2t/6t/3t but that was worse so i set it to the default and it still locks up occasionally..oh yeah.. maxtor 40g/hdd and yamaha 2200ez cdrw and teac floppy.. had a flawless start up only thing i had to do was turn rear exhaust fan around..Any and all suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.. this is my first build and my knowlege is limited but growing daily...Thanks

What version of the BIOS are you using? There is an updated BIOS that addresses some issues when using 2 sticks of RAM.

Have you tried with just one stick of DDR? Try all four combinations of sticks and slots.

Do you have an AGP video card you could borrow?

Aside for the things above, nothing jumps out. This is a clean Win98 install, right?

Do you mean an Athlon "1600+" is reported as 1400 MHz? That's correct, the actual speed is 1400 MHz.
