Somebody wants to bid on my item but needs me to ship to the Ukraine. He wants to buy through Pay Pal. Please help, could this be a scam? Could he say he never got the item and then I'd lose my money? Or am I OK if I get confirmation through UPS?
Thanks,
Bryant

And that's a serious solution, if you don't like it that's not our problem. Do you honestly think we give 2 sh!ts if you make the sale or not? It's no skin off our back if you don't like/take our suggestions we have nothing at stake if you don't make the sale based on your mistrust/bigotry/racism/whatever yer problem is with Ukrainians.

If you're worried just do no international buyers.

Escrow is a real option here.

Personally I would not sell to anybody outside of the US and Canada, and would prefer to keep it in the US, just so that there is no out-of-jurisdiction issue going on. If it goes to the ukraine and you don't have your money you are _screwed_ and never going to get anything.

I freakin agree. A lot of people here expect perfect solutions to everything from ATOT, and if they don't get it, they b!tch and moan.

Anyone else remember the eBay scam with the laptops being sold from the Ukraine, and all the ATOT people were e-mailing the guy offering more and more money for it, and it turned out to be some guy in Florida running the scam? :D

Dude, I should woop your ass for a comment like that. I'm sure you wouldn't make that comment face to face. You are probably some 5' nothing 100 and nothing nerd, who comes in here to rip on people in order for you to make up for all the small penis jokes you got in the showers at camp. I might be a new member but I came here to get away from that AOL Instant Messenger, High School mentality, shite. Go IM your mail order bride and stay the hell out of this forum.

For those of you who responded with real comments - I asked the question because I've read several EBAY scams on this site and thought someone might recognize it. Thanks.

No I have never heard of a scam like this but it could be very possible. Could you please explain why you won't use escrow?

It is very likely to be a scam.

The buyer pays through PayPal with a fraudulent credit card, but PayPal doesn't know immediately. It looks like you have your money so you ship. A while later, when PayPal finds out the CC was bogus, they inform you that they are taking the money back, but it's too late for you because you shipped already.

Actually, I don't know much about escrow, I just read the piece "3rd party holds funds", how does that work? It doesn't sound too safe of an option.

He sends money to a escrow service. The once you get word that the escrow service has the money you ship w/ tracking. Once it arrives the escrow service sends the money to you.

Do yourself a huge favor, it's a SCAM.

I think what kranky said is correct, they use elaborate fraudulent schemes ... you think you have the money, you ship the laptop TO THE UKRAINE (NEVER EVER EVER DO THIS!!!), then Paypal says it's a fraudulent stolen credit card/Paypal account from some poor sap in Ohio ... they yank out the Paypal.

You're out the $, you already shipped the laptop and you come here asking for advice because you were just ripped off.

Do not do it.
