Help: dvd hiccups!

I get occasional hiccups when playing a dvd on my computer, yet I have no idea why. I use to have an older system, and I recently got a computer upgrade, but the hiccups still persist. Any clues? I'm using cyberlink's powerdvd version 4.0.

Old system specs:
p3 450
128mb pc 100
Abit BH6
diamond tnt2
creative soundblaster live value
creative 12x dvd/cdrom drive

New system specs:
amd 1000
256mb ddr pc1500
Epox 8kha
diamond tnt2
creative soundblaster live value
createive 12x dvd/cdrom drive

I have two harddrives, and they are the primary master and slave. My dvd drive is the secondary master, with no secondary slave. What could possibly be the problem?

Sorry, forgot to mention that dma was already enabled. AGP aperature size is currently 64mb. Would it help if I increased it?

Hmmm, my old PII 400 with an ATI RageFury and a Hitachi 2x dvd-rom used to play dvd's without a hitch...
You're system should be quite able. It could be you have a glitchy dvd-rom, in my little business I haven't had the best of luck with them. Do you have access to another drive so that you could try it and rule that possibility out? The only other think I can think of is perhaps your video card. What driver are you using with it, the Dets?

Hrm, I'm just using the default winxp drivers that it detected. Should I try going to nvidia's drivers?

I wonder if I have a bad drive? It only hiccups once in a while, but it does happen, and I really dont know why. I suppose my card is kind of old. It's a tnt2. But, I was under the impression that a tnt2 should handle dvd playing w/o a problem.

Ok, looks like the latest XP drivers for my tnt2 are the same as the nvidia drivers.

Well, it's not really that big of a deal, since the hiccups happen only once to three times during any dvd playback. However, it is just a bit frustrating, knowing that I have a really fast cpu.

i see this happen all the time. even an OS reload does not help your problem, correct? you need to start over again. try installing your OS in another separate directory and see if that clears up the problem. your OS is probably bloated and needs a new place on the harddrive to run back up to speed.

have you tried enabling wardware motion compensation within power dvd? it smoothed out playback on mine a bit. luck! bodinski
