My shower stall drain is draining extremely slowly.

Would the ATOT experts choose Drano or Liquid Plumr?

Liquid or that foaming stuff? I'm going to let the stuff work it's magic overnight.

Bruce Lee, Nissan Altima, VW, LOTR, Staples is suck or picts are not options.

i've used liquid plummer on a slow drain before, worked quite well. never use it on a clogged drain, because if it doesn't work you have a very toxic chemical sitting in your tub/sink/toilet/whatever, with no way of getting it out.

We use Liquid Plumr pretty much exclusively at my place and have had no problems with it...however, YMMV

ElFenix & baffled2 - Thanks. I want to clear up the drain before it becomes CLOGGED, it's currently draining very slowly.

pyonir - I would but the drain hole isn't large enough.

aphexII - Only Radeon can ask that since he's the official ATOT Bruce Lee vs Coke memorial spokesperson.

Heed the warning of ElFenix. If that stuff is sitting in the tub for too long, it will ruin the finish.

If you're renting your place, just call the landlord.

Best thing to do if you have a wife/GF/BF/sister/brother/father/mother with long hair:

Remove the screen or grill covering the drain to gain access. Then, get a wire coat hanger (hopefully your mother wasn't Joan Crawford) and straighren it out. Then fashion a small hook on the end. Sick it in the drain and fish around and pull up the clumps of hair.

I have to do this all the time because of my GF's long hair.

And no, over the counter drain cleaners did nothing to help.

I think the Liquid Plumber is effective yet gentler on the pipes, besides if it's a shower drain it's just hair/soap scum , Draino would be over kill.

AmusedOne - My wife doesn't have really long hair but it's not short like mine either. Good idea though. I hope removing the drain plate is just a matter of removing 2-3 screws, blech this is not gonna be pretty.

baffled2 - Why would Drano be "overkill"? I want something that will eat through all the soap scum/hair and clear out the pipes (that almost sounds wrong).

I had to do all sorts of drain treatments in the last few places I've lived. The current plumbing is old (circa 1932)...

I'd go LiquidPlumr Professional or Drano Max (something thick) to pour directly into the drain. The foamy stuff works pretty well as well to work on build-up.

Might be worth it to pick up a snake as well. Think of it as a steel wool pad to get baked on stuff off a plate... or.. think of it as biting a popsicle instead of licking it. ;)

Long to me is anything over a couple of inches. (damn, that sounds bad too)

The chemical free way of doing this is to get the garden hose and hook it up to hot water like in the basement or whatever. Put the hose end into the drain and take a rag and stuff it around the hose with a screwdriver. Turn the hot water on for like 3 minutes and then you have a working drain again. I would not recommend this on completely clogged pipes as sewage pipes aren't designed to handle the pressure.

they work equally well:p go by price. your only supposed to leave it in for about 30 minutes, u don't want it eating your pipes too:)

Since I'm a cheapskate and since I don't want to harm the environment I always use a coat hanger or more frequently a large paperclip. Nothing works better, but it does take about 5 minutes of labor. So if you don't want to do the labor and if the drain isn't too clogged, then just baking soda and vinegar will usually do the trick. But for big clogs, baking soda and vinegar isn't powerful enough - sometimes even Drano and Liquid Plumr aren't powerful enough. In that case the coat hanger or snake will be your only option (but how many of us have a plumbing snake?)

I know Liquid Plumber works pretty well.
I once had a real bad clog up in my shower that backed things up in two bathrooms. Three bottles of some generic cr@p couldn't clear it up.
About 1/4 bottle did the job.

not joking, coke does work at least as well as those over the counter stuff, unless it is hair in which case that hook thing sounds like it would do the trick lol

PS - Also, quit shaving your back in the shower! :disgust:

Ah ok.

Oh yeah tell your girlfriend/wife/mother she really needs to trim her beard, both of 'em.

I use Drano Max periodically and it seems to be doing the trick. Went from a slow drain to nice and quick.

The remove plate and coat hanger trick would be my first option. I have to do that about once a year for my two shower stalls at home. I wouldn't use Draino...
