HELP! Drano or Liquid Plumr for shower stall drain?

The plate which covers the drain doesn't look that easy to remove (e.g. no screws, you have to pop it off).

Just came back from CostCo with two large Liquid Plumr professional strength bottles.

30 minutes are up right now, going to pour some hot water down the drain and repeat.

Hopefully this will fix it.

Since I'm a cheapskate and since I don't want to harm the environment I always use a coat hanger or more frequently a large paperclip. Nothing works better, but it does take about 5 minutes of labor. So if you don't want to do the labor and if the drain isn't too clogged, then just baking soda and vinegar will usually do the trick. But for big clogs, baking soda and vinegar isn't powerful enough - sometimes even Drano and Liquid Plumr aren't powerful enough. In that case the coat hanger or snake will be your only option (but how many of us have a plumbing snake?)

posting in necro thread yaay! Tech has changed. Now hand-held snake-like devices that you can purchase at walgreens exist. They are $10 and in the as seen on TV section. I used this to pull up the massive chunk of hair and filth from my tub, thus permantly solving the slow-drain issue. Who knows how long it was there.

Draino Max Gel works very well but as said dont use it in a fully clogged drain.

If you want to stay away from harmful chemicals,plain old household vinegar will work if the clog is more soap related than hair.

Don't use chemicals unless you have no other options. Use a wire, snake, anything else if possible. Once you use chemicals if it doesn't work you have just created a hazard. Now anything else you use like a plunger, snake can cause caustic chemicals to get on your hands , eyes, etc.

If you do have to call a plumber make sure you tell them you used drano , etc so he can take precautions.

Liquid plumr pro works well.

The chemicals are fine - it's usually just bleach and sodium hydroxide. Both dilute and decay down to very harmless stuff.
