Help! Dragon+ & Volcano 7

well i finally decided to try my hand at building my own computer but i've run into a problem..

i have a dragon+, xp 1700 oem, volcano 7, 512 crucial pc100 ram. when i try to power up the computer, i get a few beeps and then 2-3 long cts beeps before the computer shuts down. there is no video during this time also. i have the cpu and heatsink properly seated and the volcano is plugged into cpufan1.

i've read from some other threads that some people have trouble w/ the dragon+ and volcano 7 because of the foc feature doesn't recognize the volcano? i tried booting w/ the insert key down and the computer boots.

ok.. finally... my question is if i turn off the foc thru the bios, will i be damaging my mobo/cpu? is the volcano 7 an alright heatsink or is foc is turning off the computer because i could be doing damage by using the volcano?

any advice/thoughts/experiences appreciated!

thanks in advance

Have you checked the manual to see what the beeps (error codes) are telling you?

Also, what is the ?foc feature? you are talking about?

If your sure the HS is seated and the fan is running, then I would boot with insert down and goto bois and watch the cpu temp. Mine reads 10C lower than a temp probe. If bios reading is 30-34 your ok. (dont load system monitor utlis.,, it uses 100% CPU and is a true waste). Fan RPM needs to be at least 2600-2700 RPM for the FOC function, but I believe that error is one long beep. your beeps sound like IDE cabling error. Dragon+'s need good PS's and ram to run well. Keep PCI stuff in slots 4 and 5. Flash to 2ba1 bios first thing, GO here, Only dragons

That's a very common problem with the volcano. You wont hurt anythin by turning FOC off.

One person said they could not turn it off with certain bios revisions but I don't remeber what they were.

Good luck.

dragon+ needs to have a fan pluged into the #1 fan header on the motherboard the first time it's started. the bios has a fail safe setting that if no fan detected it will shut off. you can change this in the bios after it starts. but if you need to clear the CMOS later you have to do it all over.

Started up w/ ins key, booted up and everything is working great!

thanks everyone for the advice-

how does 35c cpu and 29c case for temperatures sound? are they alright?
