I dont know what it is, thats why i post at the general forum.
but i suspect that the cpu is broken.

My friend brought this pc to me to check it out.

First I turned the computer on, then windows appear...5 min later pc hangs up.
Then i turned the computer on and after 10 seconds, i see weird text on the screen and also
in colours.

Nothing happening (computer is not moving) so turned the computer off again...

Now everytime when i turn the computer on, appears a black screen...nothing happening, not even a peep sound, only blackscreen while computer is on.

Do you guys know what the prob. is?

thank you

Usual checks

Cables securely seated
Nothing touching for shortings
Trial and error of diffferent parts (replace GPU - test, replace CPU - test, etc)
Reset BIOS by removing the CMOS battery for 5 mins
Ensure the case speaker is attached for the 'bleep' codes

edit: Re-read your OP. It sounds more like a GPU issue - has this system ever been OC'd??

Could you also list the specs, version of OS, BIOS revision:

All these little details makes troubleshooting that bit easier

thanks, how about parts we could test with (ie: spare stuff or your system).

....There's no point in us stating that you should swop out the graphics card if you are running a X850

the problem was... i activated enable virus protection @ bios and thats why everything went wrong, I thought it hadnt to do with blackscreen (but it does)

so thanks for that advice to remove the battery :p otherwise we bought new cpu or something o_O

Some older BIOS versions reckonises windows as a virus (I've only seen this happen on w9x machine though).

I would reset the BIOS - think about a flash upgrade, uncheck the virus protection from BIOS, then try a boot from the CD into safe mode.

edit: I only read your last post - but glad you now got it sorted
