HELP-Does SLI affect AMD CPU overclock? I cannot overclock in SLI mode.

Help guys/gals. I just received my second 7800GT and set it in SLI mode. Now my CPU will not overclock. It will only go back to default mode. Is this common?

SLI should not effect your overclock at all.

When you mean you cant overclock, does it not boot? Unstable?

Need more info.

COuld be driver issue as well.

Boot the computer into safe mode and use driver cleaner to wipe the drivers. Then try installing a different set of drivers.

Also, try booting the new GT by itself, just to rule out the possibility of a bad card.

what brand and version are the 7800GTs? According to EvgaTech Gene......LOL......recommended power is 450watts for 1 and 500-550watts for SLI but didnt say about the amperage. Hopefully its just a driver issue like Matt2 stated above.

Thanks guys. I read the Abit manual and I have to disable the following:

-All BIOS fan controls
-AMD "Cool and Quiet"

Sux because I like the BIOS controlling the fan speeds.

I am using one eVGA 518 and one MSI. Both cards work fine solo. I now have SLI working, my A64 3200 OC'd back at 2.4ghz. But, I cannot OC my 7800GTs in SLI using Coolbits and value of 1A. It renders the system unstable and reboots. I had to go back in Safe Mode and delete the coolbits entry in the Registry. I am using driver V 84.21.

I am almost to the point of saying F**K IT, and go with a single 7900GTX.

Before you decide to "F**K IT", the X1900XT is a very attractive card 😉

For a single card configuration, I think the X1900XT(X) is a better option then the 7900GTX. The X1900XT can be had cheaper and has a few more features (like HDR+AA, which in Oblivion looks great).

If I were going dual card's, the most attractive option is Dual 7900Gt's in SLI (which I currently have) and whose price isn't "that" obsurd. Plus I vmoded them and now they run just as fast as a 7900GTX.
