OK, this is driving me crazy. There was a book I read back when I was about 12 years old that I absolutely loved, but I either do not remember the title correctly, or else nobody has it anymore.

The story was about a young boy, early teens, who was kidnapped by a group of, um... terrorists, I guess... because of his unusal power - when he concentrated on it, he could teleport himself to any place he could picture. They had also kidnapped a young girl the same age who was blind, but could still 'see' with her mind. The criminals had a machine called Mathilda (I think) that they were using to brainwash the kids, but the boy escaped and took the girl with him. She took him home to the aunt and uncle who cared for her, and it turned out the uncle had a special gift too, the only part of it I can remember is him saying that when he was a kid he would point at blackbirds in the backyard, say 'Pop' and they would keel over dead. Anyway, after that there is the standard adventure trying to escape the bad guys, and by the time the boy recovers his memory it turns out he is a second cousin or something to this family, his parents had been killed in a car accident and he had disappeared, the uncle had been looking for him all this time, happy ending, the boy has a new home and a new family and the bad guys are taken care of. Oh, yeah, the uncle liked to visit a sort of voluntary asylum called Elysium Fields or something, it was a tribut the the mythological Elysian Fields.

So, does anyone know the tile/author, or any identifying information? Pleeeease????

Thanks for your help.

Interesting.

Reminds me of a book our teacher way back in sixth grade read to us. I have no idea the name of it, and only vaguely recall some of the plot, but I'd love to get my hands on it for my son to read someday.

I've always thought it was 'The Boy Who Could Disappear' or something along those lines, but I've never been able to find anything.

That just comes up to a 'Browser Bug' page, I've tried it in both IE and Netscape... Can you maybe post a screenshot?

Hmmm... It could be "The Incredible Disappearing Boy". I read that in elementary school and the plot sounds familiar. Can't remember who wrote it though.

Best bet might be a librarian, especially in the juvenile section - bet they'd know in a second ;)

Azraele - Thanks, but that's not it. Our local library has a copy of that so I was able to pull up a synopsis of it online.

I haven't been able to find "The Incredible Disappearing Boy" online yet.

Thanks for your help, peeps...
