ok I reinstalled Windows XP (overwriting the one already installed) to see if I can fix the damn Start Menu problem... fixed it, but now I have another problem... GeForce 2 MX400 won't be recognized by WinXP! I go to display properties and it doesn't say anything as my display adaptor... says " on Standard Monitor". and I go to device manager, NOTHING. I don't see an expandable icon that says "Display Adaptors". I tried installing the latest nVidia drivers by running the setup file, and it installs but when I restart it, nothing happens, it stays with the very basic display adaptor (the default one that WinXP assigns you). so what do I do now? right now I'm stuck with this 1280 resolution + very bright and wrinkly (some areas of the monitor are blurry, some are not) LCD screen.

what's going on and how do I fix this?

Thanks

EDIT: and same thing with the monitor... not recognized! won't let me choose refresh rate! (I have an LCD monitor) I can't see "Monitor" in device manager nor can I access it from display properties.

You can not change the refresh rate on an LCD since there is not one. That is why people that sit infront of the computer all day prefer the LCD over crt. No eye strain etc.

I think you have to install the motherboard AGP drivers.
Had the exact same situation with my neighbour's PC. He installed Windows over a previous installation and coudn't install video card drivers because there was no display adapter in the Device Manger.
Installed the drivers from his mobo's CD and everything went smooth from there.
His was a KT400 Gigabyte mobo.
