HELP: Dialup setup for others /w Linux

Zxcvbnm

Senior member
My situation:
1) I want to be able to setup a dialup for others to log in, basically for a couple people only.

My setup:
1) DSL connection
2) Static IP
3) Linux server
4) 2 client computers

Any suggestion on how I should approach this? I want to be able to set it up so a couple of my friends can dialin to server, and use my server as their ISP. This is mostly for learning experience, so any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

I know how to do but I really don't feel like writing a post that lengthy.

For starters you'll need phone lines and modems for people to dial in. Since I doubt you're going to order a T-1 your friends will be limited to 33.6Kbps max, if they're lucky.

maybe you should learn and read about dial connections to isp's (amazon has some great books)

i agree with Damaged I could tell you how to do it, but i think my fingers would fall off typing it.

I already have the modem in the linux server, people can just dialin to it

What I am trying to say is that, how do I setup the server in a way that people can dialin, then use the connection to browse the internet.

basically saying I will be the ISP privately for others.

As for how many lines, doesn't matter. I just want to know how to set up 1 line that is all. What do i do in the linux server?

Again, already have modem inside, what kind of configuration do I need to do?
