I have heel pain that started when I was running this spring. That, coupled with severe shin splints, forced me to stop running.

Problem is, the heel pain didn't go away. Some days it is so horrible I almost fall down when getting out of bed. Only after stretching it for awhile does it become bearable and sometimes even goes away, but if I sit down for an hour or more, it comes back. I originally thought I had just sprained something, but the pain just doesn't go away like I thought it should. I haven't even severely excercised or ran in quite awhile but the pain is still there. I was hoping it was just a deep tissue bruise, but I'm starting to doubt that self diagnosis.

I cant' see anything by looking at my foot, but it sure hurts like the dickens.

Are you talking about the bottom of the heel? Or the backside?

Being that you ARE a runner, stress fractures come to mind, in addition to plantar fasciitis, heel spur, and achilles tendonitis. See a doctor and get x-rays to rule out the fracture. If that's not it, get some physical therapy. Plantar fasciitis and achilles tendonitis are readily and fairly easily treatable.

Bottom of the heel. Time to see a doc.
