Hi,

I bought a Dell Dimension PC about a year ago. A few months ago, it starts to emit a high pitch sound from the case. At first I thought it's the fan that's making the sound. But after opening the case and looked at the fan, I realized it was the case itself that's making the high pitch squeaking sound. When I squeeze the case together, the sound disappear for a while, then the sound returns after a while. Anyone else experiencing this problem? The sound is driving me mad. I think the plasting case is too flimsy or something. Any suggestion on how to eliminate this problem is appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help.

haha i have a dell dimension 4500, and yep, the clamshell case is CRAPTACULAR, it doesnt even fully close!!! I have mooded my entire case with rubber packing foam, and it has made a big difference, try it yourself, type in the keyword "shutting up 2 fans" into cooling forum's search engine, to bring up my post. I hope it helps :)

OOOOOOO btw, that high piteh noise? its NOT the case, it's the psu itself, no not the psu fan, just the psu itself, its VERY wierd, and it happens to me as well. (this will be the last dell I buy for many reasons, this being one of them, craptacular cases ;))

OHHH DON'T GET ME STARTED ON DELL CASES!!

I have a GX150 and P530 here. I left the cases open for a few weeks and the case bent and will NEVER close again. I had to tape it shut so that I could move them. I don't know what the hell Dell was thinking with their crazy designs but I don't like it one bit.
That said - you can get dynomat and line your case. I have done that with several PCs with great results. (and no it didnt raise my system temps). Also tighten any screws and like the other poster said shim all the joins. I wedged the dynomat in them but you can use all kinds of materials. The harddrives trays are horribly loose and will require some effort to tighten them up. They will squeak and squeel a lot if left alone.

Please tell me more about dynomat. What is this material, how do you use it to stop squeaking sounds, and where to buy it?

Thanks!

Dynamat is sound proofing material that is used alot for cars with big stereos. I would like at just about any electronics store that carries car audio and they should have some.
