Help!!....DC-390U3W & Seagate Cheetah problems

During start up, the DC-390U3W's latest bios recognizes my cheetah as a slower device than what it is. During the bootup it will show my cheetah as a 40.0 sync/8 wide. It will also list my Plextor as a 20.0 sync/8 wide. Ive already tried changing it manually to 160 sync/16 wide, but it fails and always says "reverting this device back to narrow". I want to get the max performance outta my SCSI so are there any suggestions???

More information. Which channel are you putting the drive on? Is the drive a 68 or 80pin w/converter? What settings do you have jumpered on the drive?
 
There are no jumpers on the drive, its bare. Its on the CN2 connector of the DC-390U3W and its a 68 pin model.

I have the same HD and controller as you but mine reads 120/16 during bootup. I just plugged-in the X15 at CN2, like you did, and the terminator at the end of the cable. Are you using the cable that came with the DC390U3W? Is your X15 loud, cuz mine is loud as hell. Are they supposed to be this loud?
 
Yeah, Im using the cable that came with the controller. The cheetah isnt that load to me. I do have it in a HD cooler though. That might muffle the noise a little. Do you have the latest generation cheetah, and if you do, what are your jumper settings?

You have something misconfigured that is forcing the system back to single-ended/narrow operation. Use the funny looking twisted cable. The terminator which is a small black box, goes at the end. The drive goes to the first connector from the end. Go the the Seagate site to get the installation data/jumper settings for your drive. Make sure you configure the drive for LVD operation. RTFM!

I didn't set any jumpers on the card or the hd. I'm booting on my x15 so I didn't put any jumpers on, which sets it to ID0. I have the new generation of X15's from Hypermicro. I'm using a rounded cable with the long end plugged to CN2(DC390U3W), short end plugged into the terminator that came with the card(DC390U3W), and the X15 in the middle. SCSI bios set to default. I get the clicking sound when the head is moving around, and it moves every ~20secs. I can't stand it sometimes... click... click... click...
 
You probably use the termination on the HD, or have a bad terminator, or a bad cable.

You need one of those blue very sturdy cables (dunno how to describe them better), an active terminator on the end of the chain, and the harddisk in one of the other connectors.

Also, if you use a narrow device and an LVD device on the same chain, both will run narrow. 20.0 sync for the plextor sounds ok, it's a narrow device... Is the plextor on the same cable or not? If it is, that's your problem right there.
 
The cable should be flat with the conductors arranged in twisted pairs. There are two connectors located very close together at the end. The active terminator goes at the end and the drive in the next location. I suspect that you are trying to use an unsuitable cable. LVD can be very cranky.
 
As noted, you don't have the hard drive and burner on the same channel right? There are jumpers on the drive.
 
I have an X15, the 36lp model and I'm telling you it HAS jumpers. They are right on the bloody spec sheet at seagate's website too.

if it's a x15hdd, it doesn't come with an jumpers which gives it an ID of 0!

It has jumpers, but if you gonna boot on it then you don't need to set the jumpers cuz you want it as id0.
