I just got all of my upgrade parts for my new computer and it aint doin nothing. I had everything plugged in... feeling good... nothing happens. Here's what I got:

IWILL XP333-R w/1700+ processor
256M Crucial 2100 ram
Geforce DDR Vid
Have two 40g hard drives, but currently just trying to make the system work with one.
Alpha heatsink

Here's what happens:

I have everything plugged in correctly... cmos is set right, FSB, ram in good, vid in good. I press the power button... fans whirl and the power light comes on. Nothing else. No hard drive spin, no blinking of lights, no beeps or anything. Is this a bad processor I just got? I've done this many times, but I can't figure this one out.

I appreciate any help while I site here looking at my new computer. ;)

What model PSU? Is the powersource messed up because the HD doesn't spin?

I think it's odd that there are no beeps when the mobo usually beeps to tell you what's wrong.

It's hard to isolate the problem when nothing happens. :(

Grrrr.... yes, it's very frusturating. The power supply is just a 300 watt that came with the case, but I've taken everything out except the essentials so there should be enough power for it. Yep, no beeps whatsoever, although the light on the mobo does come on.

probably something you've tried already but make sure ram is seated properly as this has been known to cause this . it can be difficult to seat the ram as it generaly requires a good effort especially with ddr ram. should hear it click

if this doesn't help you my apologies and disregard sorry

hoping this helps

I had the same thing happen to me during my first build (last weekend). It turned out that I had the IDE cable inserted backwards in my cd-rom drive. Check the orientation of the IDE cable in both the IDE slot on your MOBO, and in the HD. The cable should have a colored wire along one side of it: this should line up with 'Pin 1' of the IDE slots. Your MOBO manual should indicate the orienation of where pin 1 is in the system, and the HD should have a diagram indicating which of the 40 pins is 'pin 1'. To align the cable to my CDRW correctly, I had to 'invert' it (twist it around). As soon as I lined up the cable right, everything worked great.

Good luck with the build. I hope this solves your problem.

Try to reseat the ram and make sure the cpu is completely seated. I know that sounds elementry but I had a cpu not long ago that did not settle completely into the socket and after removing and replacing it worked. Double check the jumpers. Again that is elementry but the pictures in the manual sometimes may not match the way you are looking at the board. Remove the board from the case and remove all cards except video. (If the leads on the psu are not long enough you may have to remove it from the case also.)You should have not have any drives attached. Use only one stick of memory. See if it will post. If it does post install in the case making sure there is no place that is shorting and try to start. If it posts install you cards and drives one at a time to determine if there is a bad component. If it will not post out of the case you need to try Memory that is known to be good. Next step is a known good video card. If still no post try known good cpu. If it still does not post you probably have a bad mobo. Be patient and methodical and you will figure it out.

I only have one hard drive plugged in currently and am pretty sure everything is lined up correctly. Can the computer boot without a hard drive? I'm at my college right now and will try everyone's suggestions when I get home. I've done almost everything suggested except take the mobo out of the case. I have an old 1.4 TBird that was chipped but still worked and that didn't work in the mobo either. Will try later. Thanks again.

Cpals - Jen and Flyer1 have good suggestions, but before you remove everything from the case, recheck RAM seating, etc, I would confirm that it isn't a problem with the hard drive.

You can POST without a hard drive installed, so just remove the power to the HD and remove the HD cable from the MB. If the system doesn't POST, follow Jen and Flyer1's advice. Your problem sounds so similar to what I saw that I really think you should try to rule out a problem with the HD IDE setup first.

Let us know how everything goes.

Well, took everything outside of the case... had just the mobo, one ram, one vid card and the heatsink all installed. Put in the 1700+ processor and same thing happens. I know that my ram and vid card are good 'cause I was just using them.

So either the processor or mobo is bad. I don't have an extra of either one to test out to see which one... looks like I'll have to RMA both. This really stinks since I've spent over 4 hours just trying to get the stupid thing to work. :(

Blame the mobo, I have never had a defective processor, and I've had like 3 defective mobos in my time.
