Help CPU replacement

Fan is moving and there is no dust in the exhaust. Actually it seem pretty stable right now. I had it on a flat surface and moved it on to my lap. Usually the laptop would put out a lot more heat when it's on my lap, but the temperature is still a constant 64 degrees.

Okay, I'm a little confused (suprise, suprise). I ran another program and it's giving me a CPU temp of 32 degree and a board temp of 40 degrees. This is on SiSoftware Sandra. The Mobilemeter is giving me the 64 degree reading. Both Celiius. One of the programs is not accurate. Anybody recommend a different program to determine temp? thanks.

Okay, I'm getting a message that the cooling systme needs servicing and I need to shutdown. This CPU is just running too hot. Anybody have an answer? Return CPU and get a Celeron? thanks.

I'm going to return the P4 CPU. Anyone have any other suggestion other than getting a Celeron? Thanks.

I guess the extra cache on the P4 generates too much extra heat. Probably the only thing you can do then is replace it with the same model Celeron / lower.

Here's one for $98: Celeron 2.8ghz

Your laptop originally had a 400mhz fsb processor it seems -- Toshiba

Best to stick with what originally worked. If you're not happy with the performance you could always fix it, sell it and buy one of the cheap celeron-M deals that are always posted for $500. Sorry the P4 didn't make it. 🙁

Okay, before I return the 2.8 P4, I pulled the 2.2 P4 400 bus from my Dell 2400 desktop and put it in the laptop. I put the 2.8 P4 533 in the desktop. The desktop seem stable and running good. (cross my fingers). I have the 2.2 in the laptop and I'm going to see how that goes. I had one freeze up earlier. But let's see how it goes. Thanks for your help.
