I'm in France right now visiting some family, and I've got a 9 year old cousin here, who's got quite wealthy parents. They've got a private jet, but he wants to fly to the USA via Economy Class, because he thinks it's more fun/wants to be like everyone else. We've tried convincing him he's crazy, and even though I fly Economy Class 99% of the time, he won't listen to me :p. He's only 9, so lets keep the replys friendly ;).

Hate to disagree but it's not necessarily better, depends on what he wants!

he may be 9 but being like everyone else might not be so bad. I'll go ahead and take his spot as pampered rich kid and he can be a 'normal' kid.

That's what he's insisting on doing, and he won't have much of a choice once he's out in the world on his own ;). It's just funny, because he hates flying a private jet. I know if I was in his situation, I'd be taking advantage of that like no other.

The thing is that he pretty much is a "normal" kid. There's nothing about him thats different, hes not a pampered kid who acts like he's "better," it's just humorous that he thinks Economy Class is this magical place ;).

That's cute. I have a younger cousin who once thought coins were worth more than bills because they were shiny.

It actually might be a good learning experience to ride with him on the economy. You might want to show him clearly that economy class is a very uncomfortable place. Maybe get him a movie with some scenes taking place in economy class. If he still insisits, let him ride him economy. He might end up crying throughout the whole flight, but oh well.

how big is the private jet?

for a transatlantic flight, he might be right depending on the size of this private jet, i'd rather do transatlantic on a large commercial airliner over most smaller private jets.

I believe it's a Gulfstream. These people have a lot of money, so it's def. something that would be pretty nice. They've done trans-Atlantic flights with it before.

Like this is even worth taking the time to discuss, man I wish I had these kind of dilemmas in my life.

it's not just about "nice" it's about size. a larger aircraft just flys smoother than a smaller one.

Ahh, rich people who go for some style.
You get a Lear to make people go "ohhh ahhhh"
You get a Gulfstream to make your ass go "ohhhh ahhhh"

Its like daddys chair next to a wooden milking stool.

I took a guess with the Gulfstream. I honestly have no idea what it is. I'm flying on it tomorrow to London, but I'll post pics of the French house (we're in Cote d'Azur), the jet, and the London house when I get back on the 5th :p.

Did anyone stop to consider that this kid might want to fly on the commercial jet cuz he wants to fly with some interesting people? A little culture shock might be good for this kid, and get him to understand and appreciate what he's got a bit more, once he sees how the "poorer half" lives.

Besides, he might think that the private jet is boring cuz it's the same old people he's always around, and no one new to talk to. Let's face it, you people are lame!! ;)

It's not like we're arguing ;). He's my cousin, and we engage in conversation. Is that okay with you?

That's what he says, he wants to meet new people. Has anyone here ever met anyone on a plane :p? It's not like he is isolated from the world...he goes out just like any normal kid.

Give him four quarters for a $100 bill and tell him since he's getting four of something to your one of something he comes out better on the deal.

What difference does it make to a 9 year old? There isn't much leg room in coach, but 9 year olds don't have long legs.
