my power supply was dying a few days ago b/c i could hear the power supply fan struggling and making loud noises, also heat sink fan was making loud noises too.. so i turned off the computer for the night. next morning, the computer wouldnt turn on.

i thought that migh be because of power supply so i got a new power supply and heatsink/fan, and replaced them, and computer still does not boot up. no signal is sent to the monitor, and i don't hear any beeps at all.

any suggestions?

any way to figure out if it may be the motherboard or cpu that's dead?

thanks

wait so does the computer turn on your just not getting an video output?

why did u replace the heatsink/fan?

the computer powers up, all the fans start spinning, hard drives turn on (can hear it). but i don't hear any beeps and nothing displays on the monitor.

i replaced the heatsink/fan because it sounded like it was gonna fail, the fan was having some trouble by the sound

Either you have your heatsink backwards (needing to be turned around 180°), or your video card has failed. Notice that your heatsink has a notch, and won't make contact with the cpu, if you don't match the notches.

the heatsink seems to be on correctly, both sides are snapped in to the notches

so i just tried taking out the video card, then video card and RAM out o the mother board, and turned computer on, and still no beeps.

motherboard or cpu possibly dead?

Do you have onboard video or a video card? Also have you tried the ram in this machine on another to make sure it's good?

That same problem happend with my pc a little while ago, but 2 weeks work experience fixing pc's with those problems thaught me something.
Try an old pci video card, if same problem, take out all ram, boot up, obviosly nothing wil happen, put in 1 stick of ram, boot up, if nothing, put in a different stick instead, and try it again, if that doesnt solve it, try and borrow an old cpu from a friend, and see if that was the problem, otherwise it might be something more drastic, like a few problems, and by looking at the specs of your pc, you my be in need of a new rig by now anyways.

thanks for the help everyone, really appreciate it!

thanks btcomm1, i found the jumper on the motherboard from your link and cleared the CMOS. Tried to boot up, got repeating beeps.. so i put the RAM back in, then 1 long beep and 2 short beeps. Found online it means there's a video adapter error, guess my video card is dead, will try to find one to test.
