Help, Computer won't boot.

My roommate has been using his computer for years and it just recently locked while he was downloading something from an ftp site. It will no longer boot at all. We've tried leaving it unplugged for a while and also pulling out the battery but nothing changes. When it is plugged in power immediatly comes on without touching the power button and nothing is outputted to the monitor. It's a PII 350 Gateway with a V3 2K. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks.

The computer is about 3 years old and it's not under warrenty anymore. I'm thinking motherboard, but it's weird because it just stopped working for no reason. Possibly the power supply might be putting out a bad voltage but i'm not sure.

Check power button wires. May have come loose and are shorting out. If so, just solder them back and you should be OK.

You say that nothing is output to the monitor, but can you hear anything from the hard drives? If you can hear any drive accessing then it could be your video card or monitor. It could also still be your powersupply or motherboard, hard to tell 🙁

Checked the power button wires and yes, all the fans and hard drive spin up. Doubt it's the video card or monitor but ya never know.
