Ok, so I was installing a new DVD-RW drive I got and it was going good, Windows XP recognized it, I was burning stuff...then nero gives the error "Connection Interrupted"...the drive was stuck and nero froze...

So I open my case, make sure all connections are good and reboot. Only this time right after it checks the CD drives to see if it should boot from them, it suddenly starts showing weird symbols scrolling down the screen (like a matrix effect) I have disconnected everything, reconnected, reset CMOS, but it still wont detect the hard drives!

Help!

Specs:

* Operating System: Windows XP Pro SP2
* Motherboard: MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum
* Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Winchester
* Memory: 1gb (2×512) OCZ PC3200 Platinum Revision 2
* Video Card: BFG 6600 GT OC PCIe
* Storage: 80gb Western Digital and 20gb Western Digital (both IDE, both won't detect)
* Drives: Pioneer DVD-RW and Pioneer DVD-114 dvd rom

UPDATE: Video (3mb)

No I don't have one, the hard drives are directly connected to the motherboard via IDE...

Load fail-safe defaults or try to boot in safe mode? Might be driver conflicts? Disconnect optical drive and try to boot? Report success/failure here, please.

Good luck!

Nope, I can't get into safe mode. Only thing I can get to is the bios...

Also, here is a video of what happens: http://www.dizzytech.com/vid.avi (3mb)

Not looking good:

DMI

Abbreviation for Desktop Management Interface. DMI enables the management of your system's software and hardware. DMI collects information about the system's components, such as the operating system, memory, peripherals, expansion cards, and asset tag. Information about the system's components is displayed as a MIF file or through the Dell Inspector program.

:( I'm not sure this is the problem though, what makes me doubt it is that if I have my DVD drive plugged in, it would finish the "Verifying DMI Pool Data" part then goto "Boot CD:" (Checking if it should boot from the cd) and THEN show the weird jibberish...I have a feeling if I can just get it to recognize my hard drives again it will work...hopefully...

EDIT:

Issue:

Computer stops at verifying dmi pool data...

Cause:

This issue can be caused by any of the following:

1. Corrupt boot files on the computer.
2. Settings for hard disk drive are not correct.
3. Floppy diskette or CD in computer causing issue.
4. Boot devices not set properly.
5. BIOS corrupt or misc. setting not set properly.
6. Connections loose or disconnected.
7. Bad Hard disk drive or other bad hardware.

http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000474.htm

So it seems, most likley, the only reason for the DMI crash is because my hard drives are not being detected, therefore it has nothing to boot from, therefore its crashing...

I'm still trying some stuff...I'll report back (Hopefully I'll be happy when I do...:confused: )

:) :) :) It's fixed....

It actually wasn't broken in the first place, I'm just an idiot. See, I have a modular power supply. I guess when I was reinstalling my DVD-RW, I unplugged the molex from the power supply that leads to the hard drives, I didn't see it because the power supply is tucked in the corner. It wasn't until I decided to pull every single cable out that I saw it. So this whole time, the hard drives were not plugged in...

I guess I'm happy it wasn't a huge problem...it wasn't even a problem at all! Thanks for everyones help...hope I gave you a good laugh ;) :p
