HELP!! Computer Stuttering

All of the sudden, probably due to the installation of norton anti virus, my machine starts stuttering every so often. By stuttering I mean that the when I move the mouse across the screen it does move smoothly but sticks every so often. There is also a stuttering of my audio output. I am using Norton Anti-virus 2002. I can't see anything in the task manager process section that is taking up processing power that would cause this.

My other guess is that I have started using firewire to connect the machine to another one. I doubt this though becuase i t was fine for a while before.

Any ideas?????? This is so annoying!!

any device conflicts in device manager? irq problems perhaps..

can you uninstall nortons and see if that is the problem?

doyou have the norton backup stuff running ? if so turn it off and see what happens.

No hardware conflicts. I am not sure if norton is doing it becaue it took too much time to manually install it so I haven't had a chance to test it. I don't have any norton backup stuff.

It doesn't always happen but seems to happen after a while sometimes.
