HELP! Computer isnt booting!

I am not getting anything on my monitor. I just got my thunderbird 1.2 (266mhz bus). I tried 2 diff video cards (1 AGP 1 PCI) and 2 monitors. It seems as if the computer is working (cd-rom turns on, harddrive seeks), but nothing on my monitor. SOMEONE HELP PLEASE!!!
 
Do you have both monitors plugged in, one to each video card? I don't think this setup works, but I might be wrong 'cause I've never tried it. Trying just using one card/monitor and see if that works.
 
Oops, I misread your problem about the 2 video cards. It's hard to tell what the problem is what out knowing what components you are using in your system.
 
Is the computer beeping at you at all? Or are you just booting up and getting no signal from your moniter? Do your fans spin up? Also make sure everything is seated correctly.
 
Hey there. I've experienced a similar problem with some older motherboards, but never a newer one. What I would suggest is that you unplug your power cable from the power supply. Then, short the CMOS jumpers next to the battery. They will appear as two small solderings that rise slightly above the motherboard's PCB. Use a flat-head screw driver to short them. I believe it's listed as something like "CTLRST" or something like that. Then try booting. I don't know why some people have this problem, but it's worked for me in all of the years since I've made computers. Good luck!
 
Nothing shows up on the monitor at all. The fans start spinning and the cdrom light comes on for a couple seconds ( like my other computer ), and then i get one beep (according to award bios, booting correctly). After the initial boot when the 3 lights flash on my keyboard, i can no longer press numlock or ctrl alt delete, etc. I dunno what this would mean...if that means a dead motherboard or whatnot. Anymore suggestions are welcome...keep it coming!

what kinda ram u have and did you check if you plugged in the ram correctly and in the right slot?

I've had that problem when I didn't plug my memory in far enough.
 
Try pulling ALL your cards except the video card. You may also want to try pulling that also to make sure you get a POST beep code stating that it can't find a video card. That will at least tell you the MB is trying to do something. Basic POST codes should be in your manual and can be found online if you know who makes your BIOS.

Also make sure your IDE cables are attached correctly. If they are backwards somewhere, you may get nothing. I did that once but I think the PC gave me beep codes of some sort.
 
I tried clearing the CMOS, both w/ the jumper way and then taking out the battery + the cmos. I've basically decided its either the CPU or the motherboard..so I took it to a friends place and he's testing it out now
 
I had something like this happen at a LAN party once. Everyone was telling me that it was my AGP slot on my mobo, but when I got home, it worked just fine. Turns out that my computer wasn't getting enough power. Maybe try a new power supply or power outlet?
 
New Outlet? hrmph..that was would be a hoot if that was the problem 🙂. I tried 2 different outlets and same problem. The ps is a new antec 300w. I do have some new information though....when i turn it on, while the CD-rom drive light goes on, my floppy drive never gets accessed like my other computers. The computer does, however, make that funny noise (normal, happens on all my computers), i assume thats the HD. Anyone feel like taking a gander on whether its the CPU or the motherboard thats dead? I hope its not the CPU...since this is an AXIA...dont want that baby to die!

How much power supply do you have?
I had a similar experience when I had just got my MSI 694D Pro a MoBo. I was only using one processor,still the system was as dead as a door nail. Turned out 250W power supply was not enough for this system. Think you may have the same problem. It's running now with 250W but I feel it's not enough. I believe you can get some very subtle errors in your system if you're under-powered.
I've just ordered a 400W PS.

Would be good if you could try the system with a 400W PS, just to see if it would work. Do you have a nice puter store that you go to or something..., that can just help you test. My 694Pro Air is meant to take two processors, and since it refused to start at all with the 250W and runs with the 300W, still only one processor, I'm anticipating that it will want even more PS with the two Processors on board.
Just a thought.

Well if your computer beeps the motherboard should be working fine. It looks like could be something with the CPU. I just recently had the same problem with a kt7 raid ,almost exact problem. Ordered a kt7a raid and popped it in , and worked fine. But i did got an Cmos checksum error. Someone said that my cmos was messed up and for some reason wasnt reading the cpu correctly? Anyway try testing out your cpu in another computer if possible. I'm probably going to order a duron and test out my motherboard that seemed to be dead.

They put that out on the 13th. Hopefully that may solve your problem.

If your not sure see if you can get a TBird or Duron that is not an unlocker 1200 as that seems to be the one causing the problem.
 
Its actually a ka-266. It turns out the motherboard is the problem though (90% sure). They tried a different PS, they tried a diff chip, nothing worked in the motherboard. I'll RMA this to newegg.com once i get a chance
