A friend's machine has McAfee antivirus on it, but i dont think she ever updated the virus data files. Now the machine has a virus. Her data files are gone in MyDocuments, McAfee no longer runs, and the profiles are set such that it won't allow me to install NAV.

It's a w2k machine and I am logged in as administrator.

Any ideas?

THX!!!

All I can say is that if it were my computer I'd backup what I could and re-install Windows.

Find out the exact name of the virus. Go to Symantec and search for it. There may be work arounds to disable the virus, so you can install the program. Some of it may have to be done from the DOS prompt before booting into Windows.

Good advice about checking on the Symantec site, as some viruses have a separate "cleaner" program that you can run.

You can also download AVG Anti-Virus for free.

Once installed, update the anti-virus files, set the config to check all files, check all zips to at least 3 levels down, then run a full scan.
