Help! computer doesn't boot

crisscross

Guys, I flashed my bios and it doesn't boot anymore. It's a intel SE440BX Motherboard with a PII350. Whenever I switch on the PC I get a screen saying Intel Manufactured Motherboard and then it stops. I can hear the system POST (memory test beep etc) but it doesn't go any further.

Please help!

You probably fried your motherboard.... i know, i hurts! The same thing happened to me! It was my first time flashing my motherboard. I had an Asus A7A266... tried flashing it, and then it wouldn't boot up. I am thinking about sending it back to Asus to see if they could get me a new one. I Right now, I just bought a new Soyo at Fry's.

🙁 damn! I don't believe this. First time I tried to flash a motherboard and I screwed up! Guys can you suggest config for a new system? basically need a new MB and Processor. Do i go AMD or Intel?

If there is anyway that I can get the motherboard to work. Please advice. I am short on cash rite now.

Well, you could send your BIOS chip here, but since that's such an old board, I wouldn't bother. I'd just use the crash as an excuse to upgrade! 🙂

I suggest the MSI KT3 Ultra2 and whatever Athlon XP chip you can afford to put on it. You'll also need some DDR RAM.

Just curious, why were you flashing your BIOS? What problem were you trying to fix?

Thanx ppl. I guess I will just get a new Mobo and CPU then. couple of things I don't mind spending a lil more and getting a good one. I have a PCI64 Soundcard so I need to upgrade that too. Do you think I should with AMD and Nforce or do I go for a P4.

Please advise motherboard, processor and other details. I have 256MB SDRAM can I use that for the time being?

This is why I flashed the BIOS Hard Drive not detected

This is my present Config
Maxtor 40GB 7200RPM Hard drive
Ati RadeonVE 32MB
PCI64 Soundcard
256MB SDRAM

btw I need a new PSU too. so please let me have ur recommendations for all these.

Thanx

It's hard to beat the MSI KT3 Ultra2 based on price/performance/features package. KT333 chipset, USB2.0, ATA133, 6-channel sound, POST card in the form of their D-Bracket. Plus, MSI is very reliable and stable. If you bought this board, you could use your "sound card budget" to buy a stick of DDR memory. Here's more info the that mobo: Linky! MSI also has tools that let you do BIOS flashes/overclocking from windows and hardware monitoring.

If you really want to use that old PC133(?) memory and cripple the XP's 266MHz FSB bandwidth, then you could try a board with the SIS735 chipset: K7S5A That chipset supports old PC100/133 memory and DDR memory so you could use your old memory now and upgrade to faster memory later. Some people rave about this board's greatness while others curse the day it was created. Do a search of these forums and you'll see what I mean.

I prefer Antec power supplies, but Enermax are real popular too.

Before you go out and buy new hardware, I would suggest resetting the CMOS settings via the jumper or by removal of the battery. It is worth 5 minutes of your time to make sure that you do not have to buy anything new. Also, if you are worried about this happening again, then I would suggest getting a Gigabyte motherboard with the dual BIOS feature. Bad flashes are precisely the main reason for the use of that technology.

Like I said before. Try clearing the CMOS. It doesn't sound like you had a bad flash. Most of the time you get nothing when you turn it on after a bad BIOS flash

Thanx ppl. Will try clearing the CMOS by removing the battery. I would definitely not want something like this to happen again. But which is the best motherboard I can get? I was looking at the ASUS A7n266-C as it has Dolby Digital etc. What do you guys think? Incase I have to get new stuff. This is what I plan to get

Asus A7N266-C
AMD AthlonXP 2000
256MB 2100 DDR RAM Micron
ENERMAX EG365P-VE(FM). 350W Power supply for AMD K7 & Pentium4

Please let me have your views. The only reason why I am not very keen on the MSI KT3 Ultra2 is that I am not sure about it's audio when compared the Nforce.

Just a lil confused. Please advice.

Thanx
