Help, comp (hdd) is doing weird

Here's the thing. Since a couple of days my computer stalls every time i try to run some programs for like one minute. In this time it makes like three ticks, and then starts running again, but it closes some windows. Same happens @ startup, when loading my desktop, it stalls for one minute with the ticks, and then proceeds with loading. When i shut down improperly, and start it up again, scandisk stops at 8%. Anyone got a solution? I tried a virusscan (nothing), let norton disk doctor scan, but it stops everytime @ boot record.

Ow, and i noticed another thing, when i do the system diagnostics, it stalls at checking the boot record, but then it also pauses my system scheduler. I ain't got no clue what's going on. Is my Hdd underway for a frying?

run a hard drive fitness test to see if your hard drive is having problems, you can find the software at IBM's website
