Help choosing perfume or scented oil for wife?

She's never worn anything, but has recently gotten pretty girly as she prepares to re-enter the professional world. She picked up two scented oils from Whole foods, "Lilly of the Valley" and "Autumn Rose" they were definately Grandma material.. yikes.

She's a biology geek, who has spent the last 10 years raising our children. She's about to leave the nest and is Girling up.

Not that I mind really, she's pretty. 🙂

I'm not a fan of perfume in general, it makes my nose itch and always seems too strong.

I told her I'd get her something nice that I liked, figured I could roll it into Valentine's Day.

Any suggestions of a perfume or scented oil that is not overpowering and doesn't smell like Aunt Bertha?

Calvin Klein - Eternity
Wings
Shania by Coty = cheap but smells nice

Thousands of perfumes, you and her need to take a trip to Macys or any large department store with a perfume isle.

Hypnotic

My wife some days just ends up using the cherry blossom body spray or lotion from bath and body works.

My wife likes a couple of the Vicky's Secret scents....I can't tell you what they're called until I get home though.

I was hoping for personal experience.

I generally don't care for perfumes, I'm certain there are some out there that I will like, and I know there are other's here with a similar disposition so I thought I'd ask.
Netither of us can stand shopping much.

I can recollect two perfumes my girlfriend wears:
"Gucci - Envy Me"
"Angel" which I got this for her birthday and she loves it...

Your best bet would be to go to a nice department store and ask what's popular among different age groups of women. I bought "Angel" from Nordstrom after having one of the sales women try on a few different perfumes.

Victoria's Secret has one in a clear bottle (as opposed to the "red") bottle that is fairly tame and won't singe your olfactory nerve.

I think it's the "Heavenly" branded one.

Also - if you have a Gordmans nearby they have name brand perfumes at half the price of department stores.

My wife likes Pink from Victoria's Secret. The perfume as well as the lotion and stuff that goes along with it.

I think the GF uses that. Trying to find an alternative since it seems so common.
