Help....CD rom drive ejected itself.

52x cd rom drive
win me/win 2k pro

Each time i insert CD into the cd rom drive ,it will ejected itself after 20 seconds.i still can play audio cd yesterday.i have tried many software cd and audio cd today but pc can't detected the signal and ejected itself.i want to know whether the a7v mobo or the 52x cd rom drive faulty.can i plug the cd rom drive ide connector to primary ide slot at the mobo and test it?pls help me.currently the cd rom drive is using secondary ide slot at the mobo.
