i can't seem to get my new computer to turn on anymore. i just built it yesterday, and i installed windows 98 into it today. i wanted to switch the new one into my current desk, and when i plugged everything in, it wouldn't start. i opened up the case, and i fiddled with the motherboard, epox 8k7a, and i can turn it on via the power loss recovery. but other than that, i can't seem to turn it on. ive tried messing with most thing i could, but it doesnt seem to turn on. anyone know what might be the problem. could it be a burnt out cpu? but then it did run for a while and install an os. is there anyway i could mess around with jumpers or such? i really need urgent help.

try re-seating all of the cables, all of them, drives and everything. just unplug them and plug them back in.

No fans no nothing? I would think it is the power supply...try unplugging it for a few minutes then plugging it back in? If the mobo or cpu was bas any fans connected to ps connectors or drives connected to ps connectors would power up and led lights come on...

Check case wiring (make sure plugged in correctly) and to make sure nothing is shorting out the mobo to the case...

Check to make sure cpu fan is installed properly to the mobo pins...some mobos autodetect this before they will turn on.

make sure that the cables for all the IDE lights etcera are all plugged in the correct spots and with the correct polarity....thats all i can think of

whats weird is the power loss recovery thing....if i turn that on i can turn on the motherboard, but it doesn't send any input to my monitor. also, if i do this, it doesn't shut off when i push the switch. if i can turn it on, i don't think its the power supply. anyone have any ideas?

woohooo!!!! thanks guys. i unplugged everything and plugged everything back in and it worked! had a lot of trouble with os's and missing files but after a couple reinstalls it all worked out. thanks a lot to whoever responded and tried to help!!!
